There have been over 140 mass shootings in America so far this year.¹ And in America, gun violence is now the leading cause of death for children.²

Repeatedly this year, my Democratic colleagues and I have called on Congress to take action by passing common-sense gun safety legislation, but Republicans have blocked us every time.

We don’t have to live like this. We have a responsibility to protect the safety of every American, and that starts by passing common-sense gun safety legislation. That’s why I’m an original co-sponsor of the Assault Weapons Ban Act and Bipartisan Background Checks Act, and why I’m supporting legislation that requires safe storage of firearms, bans bump stocks, and regulates high-capacity magazines.

We can take action right now to keep children safe by passing common-sense gun safety laws; but only if Republicans stop blocking our efforts to protect Americans from gun violence.
