A LOT has happened over the past week, John. First: A deadly mass shooting killed three 9-year-old children and three adults at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee. Then: In a racist power grab, Tennessee Republican lawmakers expelled two of their colleagues, Representatives Justin Jones and Justin Pearson, for simply standing with March For Our Lives activists and protesters demanding action on gun safety legislation. Now: Metro Nashville Council just voted unanimously to reappoint Justin Jones to his position. Afterward, Jones led thousands of young people, advocates, and gun safety supporters to the state capitol to get back to work and represent his district.
Our direct actions are gaining momentum despite the GOP’s attacks. We’re making sure all eyes are on TN House lawmakers to right their wrongs and hold them accountable. They are trying to silence our voices, but the whole country is listening to us. They are trying to silence Reps. Jones and Pearson, but it’s backfiring with even more attention directed at the Tennessee legislature’s corruption. They’re trying to expel compassionate representatives, but empathy will always win.
