In a new op-ed in The Nation, we discuss how progressives should build infrastructure to combat AIPAC’s unlimited spending in Democratic primaries.

Justice Democrats

Hi John,

Last cycle, we faced an unprecedented wave of outside spending from right-wing groups like AIPAC, who is continuing to spend millions of dollars precisely because they are losing the generational and partisan battle to progressive Democrats.

In a new op-ed in The Nation, Alexandra Rojas and Waleed Shahid discuss how progressives should build infrastructure to combat AIPAC’s unlimited spending in Democratic primaries — even as some “progressive” consultants and advisors seek to capitulate to the anti-Palestinian lobby.

We need to start raising money to fight back on our own terms, John. Will you make a contribution today to support our ability to speak out against the AIPAC network and their millions?

In the last cycle, AIPAC backed over 100 insurrectionist Republicans and spent tens of millions against anyone who spoke up for Palestinians in general elections and primaries. AIPAC spent millions in just nine races, and defeated nearly every Democrat it opposed — but Justice Democrat Summer Lee, a working-class progressive from Western Pennsylvania, was one of the only exceptions.

The progressive movement has to learn from Summer Lee’s victory over AIPAC. It’s a recent and concrete example of how a strong candidate with a well-run, community-driven campaign and large progressive coalition can overcome AIPAC’s multimillion-dollar machine.

If AIPAC is going to spend millions of dollars on misleading attack ads aimed at progressive Democrats, we have to learn to fight back. Just as with Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, or criminal justice reform, we must organize to align the preferences of Democratic legislators with the voters who elected them.

Justice Democrats like Rashida Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Cori Bush, Jamaal Bowman, and Summer Lee are leading a generational shift in the Democratic Party.

John, please make a contribution to our movement now to help us elect progressive leaders willing to fight back and champion solutions to the crisis we’re facing.

In solidarity,

Justice Democrats
