John — Just moments ago, a federal judge in Texas suspended the use of a key abortion pill across the country — with it set to take effect in seven days. The ruling forces the FDA to withdraw approval of mifepristone, which would prevent it from being sold. Mifepristone has been used safely for more than TWO DECADES by women for their health care. By suspending the FDA’s approval of the drug, the judge is effectively instituting a ban on one of the most used methods of abortion — even in states that protect abortion access. We knew Republican-led attacks on women’s reproductive rights wouldn’t end with the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. This ruling could leave more than 64 million women without access to abortion in their state. This attack on women’s health care is a powerful reminder of the stakes in next year’s election — and why we must defend a Democratic Senate majority with the power to confirm or reject federal judges. The freedom for women to make their own health care decisions is on the ballot in 2024, and the contrast between the parties on this issue is crystal clear: while Senate Democrats are committed to protecting and expanding access to affordable health care for women and families, Republicans have shown they’ll use every tool they can, from the courts to Congress, to try and strip away health care coverage from women and families.
