Friend,
I can think of countless other
things I’d prefer to write than this: Trump was
right.
But in fairness, so were we. We
knew this indictment was a political gift to Trump and a surefire way
for him to lock up the GOP primary.
Trump saw it too, and every single
poll in the past few weeks has proved both of us right in a big way.
I’ve seen this story in too many primaries to
count. Trump’s up at least 20 + in polls against
DeSantis. This race is over.
It makes sense that the party of
lawlessness would actively support a nominee under criminal
indictment. And if more indictments come rolling in, we can assume
they’ll only boost his numbers. Remember, that’s why Trump’s doing
this. It’s why he wanted it.
Donald
Trump has all but locked up the nomination. Yesterday’s arraignment
inflamed his base and showed us just how far every other wannabe GOP
candidate will go to bend the knee. Don’t count on anyone but us
taking him on >>
Here’s what happens next. The
ultra-rich donors will start fleeing from DeSantis. (Just in time –
remember Rick’s life-cycle of the GOP mega-donor? We do really hate
being right all the time). And Trump gets the best of both worlds -
the fundraising dollars of the corporate wing and the
boots-on-the-ground activist insanity of the MAGA faithful. Addition
by subtraction from his rivals.
It’s a two-headed monster and it’s
looking to destroy our centuries-old democratic system.
But don’t be worried, be ready to fight back.
We’ve got every right to be
optimistic in our mission to defend democracy.
Yesterday, Janet Protasiewicz
defeated a far-right “stop-the-steal” candidate and secured a
Democratic majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. And she did it
handily.
A ten-plus point margin in a tight
swing state like Wisconsin is absolutely unheard of. But it’s also a
sign that the pro-democracy coalition is only getting more powerful
and ready to deliver huge wins at the ballot box.
Her opponent’s response is also
telling. Rather than gracefully concede after losing in what is
looking like a blowout – he doubled down, refusing to concede and
spitting out the same old tired lines the ultra-MAGA GOP can be
counted on to deliver. Make no mistake that this is their
playbook.
As the summer approaches, the GOP
primary is going to heat up and you’re going to see more election
denying and refusal to follow any sort of democratic norms. We’re
going to see an even more empowered and unhinged Trump take to the
road, hosting more rallies and sowing more chaos.
The MAGA faithful will turn out in
droves and support every second of it. It will look scary and
defeating them will at times feel overwhelming. But remember the work
we’ve done at the ballot box. That’s where it counts. We keep winning.
We know how to win.
We’re
bigger and more organized than they are. We’ll win this if we continue
to deliver our message to the voters who need to hear it the most.
We’re the best messenger out there. I’d appreciate it if you could
support our work today.
