Hi, it's Elle Farmer, the Research Coordinator for Schools & Communities First.
As a member of the transgender community who grew up going to public schools, I know how difficult it can be for students who identify as LGBTQ+ to access the resources we need to live out our full potential -- even in a state at the forefront of equality like California.
Here are some tough facts: Forty percent of California's youth experiencing homelessness are LGBTQ+. Sixty-four percent of LGBTQ+ students report being bullied and harassed in school. By reclaiming $12 billion a year, our schools and local communities could provide critical services that can totally change a person's life.
That's why I'm proud to announce that Equality California, an organization dedicated to the expansion and protection of LGBTQ+ rights, endorsed Schools & Communities First this week!
For me, this is personal.
Having faced many of the challenges that LGBTQ+ youth face in our state, I know what a difference it can make to have a school counselor listen to you, or to visit a clinic that understands that LGBTQ+ individuals often face different health challenges.
Access to these vital resources shouldn't depend on your zip code.
Yet, corporations, wealthy investors, and shady interests want to keep in place a status quo that doesn't provide everyone with the same opportunities to succeed. Those same shady interests don't want to pay their fair share.
Our grassroots movement is powered by people like you, and organizations, like Equality California, who want all of us to have the chance to succeed.
Will you chip in to support our campaign to reclaim resources to support LGBTQ+ youth in California?
I'm proud to be part of this movement and am grateful for your support for our campaign that will mean so much to LGBTQ+ Californians!

The Schools & Communities First initiative reclaims $12 billion every year for California’s schools and local communities by closing commercial property tax loopholes benefiting a fraction of corporations and wealthy investors. The initiative benefits residents and small businesses by exempting homeowners and renters from any changes while implementing new tax relief for small businesses.
