Maryland Green Party

Friend --

If you registered to vote as a "Green", you may have received or soon will be receiving a notice from the Board of Elections informing you that the Green Party has been de-certified as a political party and your registration is being changed to "Other - Green". We wanted to answer some questions you may have and recommend how to respond.

Our recommendation is to do nothing at this time. If you simply take no action, you will stay on the voter roll with a record of your past affiliation as "Green", and when the Green Party is once again ballot-qualified, the Board of Elections will automatically list you as a "Green" again.

Here are answers to a few questions:

  1. Q: Am I still registered to vote?
A: Yes! You are still registered to vote.

  2. Q: Why is this happening?
A: State law requires that all non-principal parties must meet certain qualifications in order to stay ballot-qualified. The Green Party was unable to meet those requirements during the 2022 election, so it has to qualify for the ballot again.

  3. Q: What is the Green Party doing to resolve the situation?
A: We have to collect 10,000 signatures of Maryland voters by summer 2024 in order to qualify for the ballot again (at which point the Board of Elections should automatically change your voter affiliation back to "Green").

  4. Q: Can I help get the Green Party back on the ballot?
A: Yes! You can download the petition here. You can sign it yourself and ask your family, friends, and neighbors to sign as well. You can mail petitions to the address at the top of the sheet. Instructions for collecting signatures are here.

  5. Q: Is there anything else I can do to help?
A: Yes, you can make a contribution to help the Maryland Green Party hire signature gatherers to help the party get back on the ballot.

Again, when you receive notification from the Board of Elections that your party affiliation is being changed to "Other - Green", please do nothing at this time as we work to regain ballot access. You are still registered to vote and your party affiliation will be changed back to "Green" once our ballot access drive is complete.
