Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald

Good morning! Last week, Congress was in session for a busy week with many important hearings and floor activities. Let me update you on a few of the most important happenings from the week.

In the Financial Services Committee, we investigated the recent bank failures, such as the Silicon Valley Bank, and how the federal government can play a better role in addressing similar situations and instilling confidence in the banking system.

On the House floor, the main piece of legislation we passed was H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act. This legislation will increase energy production and institute comprehensive permitting reform to speed up the construction of infrastructure projects and critical mineral processing in our country. By getting this legislation through Congress and into law, the United States will be able to make significant progress in reducing our reliance on Chinese imports.

On Thursday, a new low was reached in our country with the indictment of former President Trump by the radical District Attorney Alvin Bragg, of New York, who is best known for charging a bodega owner with murder for defending his business. This is nothing more than a political stunt and is unbecoming of the DA’s office.

H.R. 1 Lower Energy Costs Act - YES

Lower Energy Costs Act Act
House Republicans promised to deliver on the issues Americans care about and we are continuing to do just that. This week, we passed H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, comprehensive energy reform legislation to power our future and reduce our reliance on China.

Despite President Biden threatening to veto the legislation days before we voted, we pressed ahead and passed the bill on a bipartisan basis.

Telephone Town Hall

It was a pleasure taking questions from many constituents during my Telephone Town Hall this week. We discussed pressing issues such as the Lower Energy Costs Act, the Parents Bill of Rights Act, the crisis at our southern border, and more. Financial Services Committee Hearing on Bank Failures

The House Financial Services Committee held a hearing to address federal regulators and investigate the decisions surrounding the Silicon Valley Bank's failure and others. I questioned our witnesses to determine how the federal government can better instill confidence in our banking system.
