Dear Reader,
I'm compelled to write to you personally because of a disturbing statistic I read
last year. Almost seventy percent of American Catholics agreed with this statement:
"I have more fear than hope about America's future."
Today, we have challenges in our nation -- and our Church -- that are daunting and
unprecedented. But it's a sobering thought that 7 of 10 Catholics fear our future.
It really shouldn't be this way.
In contrast, the community I've found at NCR is built and sustained by hope, not
fear. As a reader, you may feel this way, too.
What Robert Kennedy said in South Africa about the cumulative power of one person's
effort to end injustice is also true today about your contribution to NCR: You can
be a "tiny ripple of hope" that joins with many others to create a sustainable wave.
An additional way to show your support is by becoming an NCR Forward member [[link removed]].

It may seem like a small thing -- even an unnecessary one. You're doing your part
by reading, after all. But today numbers matter and every person, like you, matters.
For as little as $5 a month [[link removed]],
you'll receive exclusive access to updates from the NCR newsroom, invitations to
special events, and opportunities to give feedback through surveys and polls.
My personal connection with NCR started in college over three decades ago when I
interned for the publication. I learned a lot and contributed a little. I recently
joined the NCR board and am impressed that we're creating new tools to connect our
community.
I see that happening with EarthBeat [[link removed]],
the stories of Catholics and other faith groups speaking out and taking action in
response to the climate crisis.
And I see that happening with the new initiative from Global Sisters Report [[link removed]],
GSR in the Classroom. It's a free classroom resource for Catholic schools that illustrates
how Catholic sisters are helping to resolve important issues and that religious
life is a vocation call with many options.
These efforts and NCR's quality journalism, give me hope in the future of our nation,
Church, and planet. If you feel the same, perhaps you could become a member. [[link removed]]
