FACT: Assault weapons bans have happened before, and they are proven to save lives.
Colbert: We’ve had one before, from 1994 to 2004 — and it worked. During that ban, the risk of dying in a mass shooting was 70 percent lower than it is today.
FACT: There has been a massive surge in school shootings since the ban expired in 2004. 
Colbert: Elementary school is not supposed to be like World War II.
FACT: President Biden has been leading the charge with top Democrats demanding the reinstallation of the assault weapons ban.
Biden: We took on the NRA - and beat them. But we are not stopping here. I am determined to ban assault weapons in this country.
