Solid State Books workers announce plans to unionize

Workers at Solid State Books yesterday announced plans to unionize with UFCW Local 400. "We are unionizing because we love our work, our customers, and the broader H street community," said the Solid State Union workers organizing committee. "With a collective voice, we know we can make Solid State Books the best workplace it can be." While the workers have requested voluntary recognition -- every eligible worker at the store has signed union authorization cards -- the group also filed for a union election last Friday, in case management fails to voluntarily recognize the union. The union would cover seven employees at the store located at 600 H Street NE. ""We are all in this together," said the workers.
